Today, Romell drops his new track “Yesterday’s Problems”.

Speaking on the track, he says: “It's an expression of all sorts of situations I’ve been in throughout my life. I guess it’s sort of a commentary on how I deal with things that I go through - write them down and spit them out. ‘Yesterday’s Problems’ means that I don’t have to worry about them anymore, I’ve left them in the past.”

Romell was 17 when he first discovered his distinctive tone and talent for lyricism, after a brief stint in Bristol connecting with the city’s many underground producers, he returned to London to further develop his craft. Fast forward to the now, Romell has started his own label, ‘Cupid Entertainment’ and has since moved, along with the team + producers, into the 'Cupid Entertainment House’. Romell is working hard to establish his name as a tastemaker artist in the scene!

Romell sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I’ve always loved music. When I was young it helped me escape and I guess it just never wore off.
It takes me away from all my problems. I used write 16’s about everything I was stressed about.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

J cole
Joyner Lucus
Lil Wayne
Lil baby
Reason
I rate a lot of artists in the UK:
Giggs
Skepta
Chip
Young adz
I would even work with artists like… Lewis Capaldi

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the coronavirus pandemic?

The main problem I've had during COVID is trying to find a balance between being an artist that wants to release music and understanding the strategy that goes behind a ‘good’ release in this new scene. Luckily I’ve had a lot of time to write and improve my pen game. But not being able to get on stage now has meant I haven’t been able to promote my music or connect with new fans. I feel like as soon as the shows start, people will see what we’ve been planning.

4. How would you describe your sound?

I try to keep my sound raw and real, authenticity is important to me. Sometimes I like to switch it up from my comfort zone, adding different elements and testing myself musically, but I always end up coming back to where I am from, and it being about the bars.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

I’ve now been working for a long time behind the scenes, slowly grinding and surrounding myself with a team that allows me to release my music at a level I’m proud of.

It’s been a lot of work but it’s starting to pay off. I can definitely already see and feel the jump from amateur to professional. Honestly, each day has a new proudest moment, not just for me as an artist but for Cupid overall as a family.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

If you’re trying to play this game of music
I would say don’t play the game
Create your own one,
There’s a lot of fakes and people latch onto what’s cool now.
Concentrate on yourself, keep grinding until you’re undeniable.

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

EVERYTHING CUPID!!!🏹

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

I think it’s a shame that albums aren’t appreciated like they used to be. I really liked:
J Hus - Big Conspiracy
Nines - Crabs in a Bucket

And I would like to bring the whole showcase feel back to album releases.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I like going out for gelato and walking my stardog.

10. Name three things that you can’t live without when your in the studio?

Capri Sun and Trey Qua is all I need.
