Rue - Do Your Worst (Single)

London based Rue has entered the scene with her debut single ‘Do Your Worst’. With an R&B slow-jam 90s tinged instrumental with vocals to match and what an entrance. With a swung rhythm and intricately placed ad-libs , gorgeous synth and bass-line. Rue is definitely making a name for herself, can’t wait to ear more.

The lyrics reminiscent of a relationship and wanting raw honesty and giving the reassurance even in the hard times she is there to stay, because it’s not all sunshine and butterflies.

Speaking on her journey so far: I have dabbled in writing since I was 15 but only started writing seriously in my first year of university, as I had a lot more time to myself and found that it was a therapeutic outlet. Being born and raised in London exposed me to an array of music; I love pulling from the wordplay of artists such as Dave and combining it with R&B melodies like those of Summer Walker and Brent Faiyaz. I am definitely a product of my time and now find myself writing songs influenced by modern R&B and neo-soul, but I first truly fell in love with singing after hearing the transcending voices of Lauryn Hill and Mariah Carey. I hope to one day inspire others with my music as much as they have inspired me but, for now, I plan to keep singing and creating music that I love.

Be sure to follow Rue for the latest. Her music - including Do Your Worst? available to stream now.
