Noir ft: SGaWD - Figure It Out (Official Video) + 10 Questions

Rising Nigerian RnB artist Noir joins forces with rapper and singer SGaWD on his new track “Figure It Out”.  Following his first release of the year with “Man Of My Word”, this follow up continues to display a mature sound with nostalgic undertones.

Offering his smooth tone across a commanding yet subtle beat, Noir opens up about heartbreak and the hurdles you can face and have to overcome when in a relationship, trying to prevent either party from getting hurt.  The video for the track also portrays the relationship perfectly, displaying intimate lighting and dark tones, with the sole focus on just the two of them sorting out their differences.

When speaking on the track Noir said: “I never really explored the intensity of heartbreak til I made this song.”  But with the ability to be vulnerable in his music, you would never be able to tell.

Born-and-raised in Lagos, Noir was immersed in the city’s music culture from a young age. Now drawing from classic Nigerian sounds from the incomparable Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and Ebenezer Obey for inspiration when it comes to his own craft, as well as incorporating global influences including Prince, Aaliyah, and Daft Punk, the rising artist’s talents knows no bounds.

Noir sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

My dad used to play his favourite records for us at home. That was my first introduction to music and then I watched a lot of MTV. MTV really put me on to my favourite artists and I just used to sing, rap and dance along with them *laughs*.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I’ve come across great artists such as Drake, Brandy, and The Dream that have influenced my music a lot. I would definitely love to work with them some day. SZA is also an incredible artist I would love to collaborate with.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the corona virus pandemic?

Honestly, I didn’t really have any problems you know because where I made music was really close to home and my work friends live close too. So it was still convenient for me. I think the only obstacle was the fact that I couldn’t travel for a while and that sucked.

4. How would you describe your sound?

It’s progressive R&B with some nostalgia in it.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Definitely has to be opening for one of my main influences - King Sunny Ade. What a moment.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Be yourself unapologetically. It always connects.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

I have been jamming to Benjiflow and Ragz Originale. I think they’re incredible.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

'Life of a Don' - Don Toliver

'One In A Million' - Aaliyah

'Road Trip To Venus' - Shakka

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I play a lot of video games. I also watch a lot of films.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

I need my tea, definitely *laughs*
