10 Questions: Rachel Foxx

 

We’re back with another 10 Qs and this time we caught up with Hackney-based R&B and soulstress Rachel Foxx. Since gaining popularity from Soundcloud – racking up no less than 10 million streams since – she’s supported some hall of famers like Lauryn Hill, Kelis and Joey Bada$$ alongside putting out some seriously good releases of her own – her latest Progress is a hark back to golden-era R&B with more than a nod in the video too. We had chance to throw some quick-fire questions her way and this is how it went…

1. Contestant, what’s your name, chosen craft and where are you from?

2. How would you describe your sound?

Soulful, R&B, real, relatable

 

3. Who/what do you consider to be the biggest influence on your music?

Erykah Badu, Jon B, Jill Scott, Donell Jones

4. What’s the proudest moment to date for you as an artist?

My first headline show at the Servant Jazz Quarters, my COLORS performance and my performance at Jazz Cafe anddd my first festival overseas

 

5. Do you have any advice for our readers who maybe trying to play the mad game of music?

Have fun with it, plan ahead, expect the unexpected, be humble and the most important one is stay motivated.



6. Name 3 people you would love to work with and why?

Bryson Tiller - been listening to him since Soundcloud days, I love his chill approach to the new school R&B sound

Usher - one of the most incredible R&B singers of our generation, i have been listening to him since i was a baby, my mum used to bang out his albums all day everyday

7. What have you got planned for the not so distant future?

The release of my EP ‘Fluorescent’ :):):) stay tuned!

8. What’s the album you’ve played more than any other?

Erykah - Baduizm or Usher - Confessions

 

9. What’s the best concert you’ve been to and where was it?

Wizkid at the Royal Albert Hall

 

10. Name three things you can’t live without?

Clear lip gloss, my iphone, white airforce ones
