DJ Format: Statement of Intent

DJ Format is well renowned for bringing you that funk injected, soulful, booming kind of hiphop and his newest album ‘Statement of Intent’ definately brings that heat as well as exploring into Formats wide taste of other musical genres.

His new album still delivers the kind of funky hiphop DJ Format is known for, especially showcased on tracks such as ‘Dope Pusher’ which features Sureshot La Rock on the mic. This album boasts an impressive lineup of guests including Sureshot La Rock on a handful of tracks, The Nostalgia 77 Quintet bringing some really nice jazzy vibes on tracks ‘Notes in Quotation’ and ‘The Long Goodbye’, Mr Lif, Edan, Phill Most Chill and his own band The Simonsound who feature on the track ‘Battle of the Planets’ this is a very electro based track and takes me right into the electro fueled days of the 80′s (long before my time!)

So not only does this bring funky, bboy influenced hiphop, this album also touches on electro, jazz, breaks and has a couple of more downbeat, chilled and some could say moody tracks. This is perfectly shown in tracks ‘Copper Canyons’ and ‘Mayor of a Ghost Town’ which are both two of my favourite tracks on this album, although the bboy in me is also really feeling ‘Horse Power’ this is a fairly fast paced and funk based track with a really nice drumbeat and sitting here listening to this is making me want to jump into a circle and go off

The album is available now and well worth your time, check out www.djformat.com for full discography and details of upcoming shows etc.
