I’m not too sure this is what Charles Darwin may have had in mind way back when but if this was the accompanying soundtrack, perhaps the masses would’ve been a little less sceptical! Coming straight out of Bristol by way of the Split Prophets camp is Upfront MC’s latest EP, “Sound Of Evolution”. Weighing in at 8 tracks, my only beef with this is that it’s way too short! These guys have been creating a buzz of late and the latest affair follows a similar path to the brilliant “Scribbled Thoughts”; with tight production and intricate wordplay once again the modus operandi.
Upfront manages to cram a whole host of sounds into 25 minutes of Hip Hop at its finest; ranging from the head nodding “So Far”; the raw “Right Here”; the energetic “Face It”; paying homage to his habitat on “Bristol Is Like” and the deep and reflective ode to his mother, “Breaking Down”. Despite some brilliant features from his Split Prophets cohorts, Upfront’s lyrical dexterity is evident from open to close. Material of this quality will always come at a cost but for a measly £3.50, it’s a bloody snip! Split Prophets are steadily climbing the ladder and everything these guys are getting involved in is better than heavy. Expect a lot from this camp. South West Stand Up!!
