Any hiphop fan that has ever heard ‘The Militia’ knows exactly how dope Bumpy Knuckles (Freddie Foxxx) sounds over a Premo beat, so it is safe to say I was more than excited when I saw that the two had done a whole album together.
I won’t say too much as you really need to go buy this album and hear for yourself how good it is, but I had high expectations for this album and it certainly doesn’t disappoint.
There isn’t a bad track on here, one track I’m going to pick out as a highlight is the track ‘The Gangstarr Bus’ this track is basically Bumpy reminiscing about touring with Gangstarr and some stories of what went on, which for me as a massive Gangstarr fan is a really interesting listen.
The album also contains a few skits of Bumpy sharing some of his thoughts on the hiphop scene and peoples attitudes to downloading free music etc which is nice to hear.
In a nutshell the beats are sick, as you would expect from any album solely produced by the legendary DJ Premier and the lyrics are as raw as you would expect from Bumpy, one line which really stood out to me and made me nod my head in respect was ‘These punkass n***as with their blowjob deals, I miss G.U.R.U, fuck how Solar feels’
