10 Questions from Brightons Rum Committee, 10 questions for a group of 10 strong Mcs, Producers and a singer. The new album BOOZE TOWN is quality, definitely a favourite here. If you like stomping beats, loud alcohol infused rhymes and you haven’t got it yet follow the links and grab a copy!

1. Where are you from?

We are all from Brighton (aka Boozetown) except for Bukioe who is begrudgingly from Reading.

2. What/who are your influences

Deep question, musically we have a massive variety of influences between us and I think that reflects in our own material. Directs really into collecting records and has a very impressive collection of amazing music his knowledge of funk, jazz and soul is second to none. Rag’N'bones (our singer) is really into old blues and Dan Dastard knows a lot about Dub/Reggae/Ska/Roots. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. It’s like everyone has their specialist subject which gives us a massive advantage because we have a variety of styles in the melting pot.

3.What label are you on

We put our music out independently on our own label “Rumbustious”.

4. Do you have a callin card or catchphrase?

Haha we got loads of em! “Committee Is Boss” is the stand out one. It’s basically the phrase we use if someone tries backing out of something or a call of unity if someones trying to mug us off. “Did he say he can’t do the show? FUCK THAT, committee is boss!”

5. Are you touring? Where can I see you?

We’ve played up and down the country together for nearly 2 years. We pretty much have shows every week in some capacity or another. We always post new shows and info on our facebook page facebook.com/rumcom

6. Can you link us to a Youtube video of yours?

Check out some snippets from the album launch night:

7. What other UK artists should we look out for

Tons of good stuff out at the moment – anyone that features on our stuff is certified. Notably producers Scizzahz, Wizard and Mad Hatter, rappers Onoe Caponoe, Tenchoo (a champion battle emcee we know through the Don’t Flop battle league of which a few of us have earned stripes in) and label Eat Good Records. Of course all of our individual members are ones to watch too! We’ve got many past, present and future releases as solo artists….TC Johnson (or Ceezlin), Gi3mo, Prince Kong, Bukioe, Rag’n'Bone Man, Sherlock Bones, Direct, Kid Danger, Dan Darstard and DJ Choice.

8. You say a lot of words, but whats your favourite word of all

RUMBUSTIOUS without a doubt. Our full title is “The Rumbustious Committee” and what it basically means is lacking in restraint and/or discipline ya know exuberant, unruly, boisterous that kinda thing. That’s us!

9. Ever tried Graffiti, Breaking or producing beats?

Bukioes a writer at heart and an amazing illustrator (check bukioe.com if you dont believe us!). Giz used to write a bit in his teens and now does a bit of drawing/design work on the side. The only breaking stuff we do is exactly that – breaking stuff (mostly kong!). I think everyone in the crew at one point or another has had a pop at making beats but nowadays we leave that to Direct, Sherlock bones, Dastard, KD and Giz..

10. What’s ur latest release and where can i get it?

If you wanna spend a little cash you can buy our debut album “Boozetown” on itunes, spotify and bandcamp. You can get physicals at rarekind records or suspect packages which include an overly dope poster and physical ticket to boozetown (to be used in the future, hold out for that!). If you want something for free our mixtape “Committee Is Boss” is 32 sick tracks over 3 mixes, you can get that on rumcom.bandcamp.com or off the Rum Committee facebook page. Also Committee Is Boss Part II and solo releases from Ceezlin and Rag’N'Bones should be out by the end of the year. The hot spot for all our past releases individually and as a crew all in one place is www.rumcommittee.com
