French DJ, producer, and classical musician Nicolas Morant, aka Nikitch, joins forces with composer, clarinetist, and saxophonist Alexis Moutzouris on their debut EP II’, out Tuesday 28th May. The pair decided to call the project “II” (“deux” in French) to denote the coming together of the two of them. They give a taste of their smoky jazz beats project with lead single “Sans Titres” [Out now].

Greeted by a solo clarinet riff, “Sans Titres” sees husky, late-night jazz meet trappy 808 bass and afrobeat-leaning percussion. As the track unfurls, saxophone and flute play in unison, guiding the ear through landscapes of obscure shadows and illuminating light. Amidst the layers of synthesisers, distant echoes of choirs beckon, intertwined with a cyclical theme that rings throughout.

Starting as a classical musician, Nikitch switched gears to hone his craft as a DJ and producer, carving his signature sound early on with jazz and electronic music influences. He quickly gained support from notable names like Laurent Garnier and Gilles Peterson. Nikitch's musical endeavours include two albums released alongside partner Kuna Maze, titled ‘Débuts (2020) and ‘Back and Forth (2022) under the Tru Thoughts label. Alongside these collaborations, Nikitch has explored solo projects, including his debut album 'Chromatism' on Casamance (2021), as well as partnerships with other artists such as rapper Grems and singer-songwriter Andreya Triana, all contributing to the refinement of his distinctive sound.
